It’s been a while

Something exciting happened in May, I graduated with an associates degree. It’s been something that I’ve always wanted to do, but life has always gotten in the way. I finally committed to it and pulled it off this past May. That’s why I haven’t been blogging. I wasn’t sewing much in the at time and while I was writing and spending a large amount of time on a computer, it was doing homework.

Once I finished the degree, my middle son had the opportunity to go to Spain for a school trip and wanted me to go with. We went for 10 days and it was an amazing opportunity to spend one on one time together.

After we returned I have spent the month of July sewing up a storm. I think not being able to be in the sewing room and be creative really made me thirsty for the experience but before I get into the new makes I should give some time and space for the makes that simply never made it onto the blog.

First up is this lounge set, I made the Sausalito from Styla Patterns for the top and Simplicity pattern s8268 for the bottom. Both were new to me patterns and I did pick the Sausalito because it was similar to the Bleeker sweatshirt that I had made previously. The stock photo of Sausalito is this.

This image is Styla’s image from the pattern.

When I started to assemble it I realized that they wanted those ruffles to be left unfinished and that’s just not my style, I opted to leave them off entirely. I enjoy the set and it’s very comfortable but it isn’t what I wanted and I used up every scrap of fabric to create the whole look, so I wasn’t able to create different ruffles. While I like the set, I do wish I would have realized that the ruffles were unfinished before starting. The fabric I used was a waffle knit that would have frayed if left unfinished. Other knit often don’t unravel but that wasn’t the case with my fabric.

I do like the Simplicity pattern and will make it again for lounge pants. I loved that they are spacious and comfortable but don’t have an obnoxiously large crotch like other lounge/pajama pattern I’ve tried.

I have more projects to add to the blog before I get to the newest additions so check back for those in coming weeks!
