M7901

I made some pretty involved patterns lately so I needed a palette cleanser. I grabbed M7901 from McCalls. I felt like it was just what was needed before I dive into a rather involved trouser pattern test.

I made a size 16 and felt like it wasn’t long enough in the bust area. I also didn’t love the length so I chopped off 5 inches.

I think it was the right move. It fits great and in this light Chambray from Joann Fabrics it’s the perfect weight for these oppressively, hot summer days.

I really enjoyed making this so I challenged myself to make it again, but this time to do a FBA (full bust adjustment) and hack the pattern into a dress.

I’ve attempted FBAs in the past with no success. I felt it was time to try again, I watched some you tube videos and gave it a try.

I extended the bottom of the pattern piece and then drafted two pattern pieces to create to tiers. I think it turned out amazingly.

This is definitely a pattern that is going to be made again and again.
