I was project planning and ran across this rem I forgot I had even purchased. I bought it shortly after finishing my first swimsuit. I wanted a matching cover-up but soon got caught up in other projects.
Because the fabric is see through I wanted to do French seams. I’ve only attempted them on one other project and this was truly a learning experience. This is a great, easy beginner project until you determine you are doing French seams and then it takes twice as long. I also don’t love how it’s finished in the armpits but like I said, it was a learning experience.
It matches great and I love the two paired together.
I made view C but lengthened it by 12 inches. I only had enough fabric for that view and that length. The pieces for the longer versions flare out at the bottom and wouldn’t fit on my fabric but I wanted a cover up that actually covered my backside. This is truly a great beginners project, there’s no fitting and it’s mostly straight sewing.
Made this swimsuit on week 39 of my one year challenge, it’s Simplicity 1374. Here is the original blog post on that. https://sewsanityblog.com/2018/07/01/week-39-swim-time/
French seams are a fabulous way to finish anything so fragile. I even use them on 100% linen to ensue longevity in the garment. This cover looks beautiful!
