Ugh, pants. They are my nemesis. I naively entered the realm of sewing pants assuming based on my skill level that this would be a breeze. I. Could. Not. Be. More. Wrong. Pants are hard. As I’ve poked around instagram, I’ve started to feel better about my struggle and have come to understand that this type of sewing and fitting is challenging.
Most of these projects are from months ago and soon I’m going to try again, but I think it’s so important to share our failures as well as successes. This transparency allows new sewists to have hope as they start their journey and see my success as hard fought not easily attained.
Here are the pile of pants that have failed me, or I them. I’m throwing them away and putting the pattern pieces back in their envelopes. Conceeding defeat on these projects is important. I’m going to wipe the slate clean and soon take the Jean making workshop before attempting the Ginger Jeans from Closet Case Patterns. I’m looking forward to learning before this next attempt and gleaning knowledge from those more skilled. I can’t wait to share with you the outcome of my next attempt at pants.

I’ve found making a mock up or muslin helps with pattern fitting issues. The most common problem I have is the front rise being to high on me. If it helps here is some good info on pants alterations. I agree, pants are the hardest thing I’ve ever sewn in my life!!! But I am determined to concur my fear and make them fit! Can’t wait to see how your workshop experience turns out!
